When I arrived here and met with some of my friends, they kept telling me that the Milky Way bar was a certain way here, and when they explained how the bars were, it was very different than that of the American Milky Way that I remember.

In fact, when I described what the American Milky Way looked like, they told me it was like their Mars bars!  So, after that discussion, my good friend decided to buy a few different sweets and have me compare them to what I remember of the US sweets.

And with that we have the comparison of the US Milky Way, the UK Milky Way and the Mars bar.

Obviously, this above is the American Milky Way that we all know.  And below is the UK Milky Way:

I was shocked when I saw the inside of this Milky Way!  It’s missing the top bit!  So, then he opened the Mars bar package and split one of those ones open and what I saw was an American Milky Way.  So here is the comparison of the UK Milky Way and the UK Mars bar (which looks like the American Milky Way):

ImageNow, as if that weren’t all of the differences between UK sweets and US sweets, he opened a package of what are called Maltesers… Which look mysteriously like American Whoppers!  So what is shown below is the wrapper with the sweets beside them:

All in all, I had a lot of fun comparing the odd differences between sweets in the UK and in the US.  Hope you enjoyed it!

  1. Besides we Americans having Milky Way as our version of the commonwealth Mars bar, and the 3 Musketeers bar here being sold as Milky Way there, from 1936-2002 also had a Mars bar but it had almonds on vanilla nougat. By 1980 it resembled a Snickers bar with the addition of caramel, but the almonds (now chopped) help differ it. As of 2002 it is now called Snickers Almond.
